Sex Addiction

Sex addiction, also known as compulsive sexual behavior, is a condition characterized by persistent and intense sexual thoughts, fantasies, and behaviors that interfere with a person's ability to function in their daily life. This may include consuming pornography, masturbation, sexual acts, hiring a sex worker, exhibition, voyeurism, and affairs.  It is considered a behavioral addiction, and like other addictions, it can be difficult to control and can have negative consequences.

Some common signs of sex addiction include:

  • Spending excessive amounts of time thinking about, planning, and engaging in sexual activity

  • Feeling like sexual behavior is out of control, or that it is difficult to stop engaging in sexual activity even when it is causing problems in one's life

  • Continuing to engage in sexual activity despite negative consequences, such as relationship problems, loss of a job, or legal issues

  • Using sexual behavior as a way to cope with negative emotions or to escape from problems

  • Feeling guilt, shame, embarrassment, or depression about their sexual urges or challenge in controlling the urges.

It's important to note that having a high sex drive or engaging in consensual sexual activity is not the same as having a sex addiction. Sex addiction is a serious condition that can have a significant impact on a person's life, and it often requires professional help to manage. Healing is possible while working with a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). Individual therapy, group therapy, community support groups are important interventions for recovery.
