Dr. Alicia Tolerico is an EMDR Consultant in Training through EMDRIA. Consultation is a collaborative relationship between mental health clinicians. The consultant provides feedback regarding the consultee’s use of the standard EMDR therapy with their clients. This process focuses on enhancing skills and knowledge of the standard EMDR protocol. Upholding the fidelity of the three-pronged approach is imperative. Consultation is not supervision. Consultees are expected to provide video recordings, audio recordings, or EMDR case presentations during their consultation. 

Dr. Tolerico is able to provide consultation for clinicians going through basic training. Basic training requires 10 hours of consultation. If you are interested in becoming an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist you must complete 20 hours of consultation in addition to the 10 hours needed for basic training. As a Consultant in Training, Dr. Tolerico is able to provide 15 hours of consultation for those working towards certification. 

Dr. Tolerico specializes in complex trauma, betrayal trauma recovery, religious trauma and spiritual abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual trauma, and substance addiction. Dr. Tolerico has utilized EMDR with these clinical issues and clients have benefited from this modality. Dr. Tolerico assists consultees conceptualize their EMDR cases incorporating a cultural lens. Case formulation is reviewed from the AIP model identifying traumatic memories, current triggers, intrusions, negative beliefs, current symptoms, and resiliency factors. Together we will work through any challenges that arise. A goal of consultation is to transform a novice EMDR clinician into an experienced competent EMDR clinician. Dr. Tolerico will guide consultees to developing their professional identity as an EMDR clinician and encourage on going self-assessment of self-care, clinical skills, and case conceptualization.
